The “Avi Flax” Release

We are very pleased to announce the “Avi Flax” release of FeedLounge.

This release adds two major features:

  1. Mark Page Read - Many people have asked for this, we’re happy to make it available. There is now a small drop down arrow next to the “Mark All Read” button, when you click this you can choose to have either a Mark All Read button or a Mark Page Read button.
  2. “Big Red Button” - from time to time people want to be able to completely reset their account, deleting all their feeds and tags. We’ve now given each user the ability to do this (though we’ve also added several layers of “are you sure”s to make sure no one does it by mistake).

We’ve also fixed a few bugs:

  • When “paging” to a page that no longer exists due to hidden read items, the feed properly shows the last available page. (forum thread)
  • After adding an authenticated feed, the Private checkbox is properly available when adding additional feeds. (forum thread)

And we’re continuing to do lots of behind the scenes work on the back-end systems so that we can continue to meet the needs of our customers as we grow.

We are honoring Avi Flax with this release. Avi has been an active member of the FeedLounge community, providing great feedback for us in the forums and helping spread the word about FeedLounge. :)

  1. Avi: Congratulations. Your release gets Mark Page Read, which had moved up to the top of my wishlist. I shall now associate that good feeling with you for no rational reason. ;)

  2. Alex: Looks like the timestamp is radically off; I made this comment at 9:37 local, but it shows up at 6:07? I’d expect it being set on MDT or PDT, but not … a half-hour off. Thought you’d want to know…

  3. Thanks Geof, I know we’ve fixed the time on this box a few times already with similar problems. Perhaps the time sync isn’t set to auto-run on reboot.

  4. Nice work, guys! I already like the Mark Page Read functionality, and it’s also great that the paging bug has been fixed. Keep up the good work!

Great work guys. I’m still wondering when we will actually see the proper amount of unread feeds when a tag is highlighted. I’ve brought this up in the forums when we came out of beta but I’ve seen or heard no progress.

this is actually one of the main reasons why I purchased feedlounge but as you know it’s not working.

  6. Dan, as we’ve previously discussed in the forums, the source of this problem has been identified and a fix is in testing. Unfortunately, it is a very large change and we’ve resisted rolling it out until we are confident it will not cause other problems.

While we do not want to minimize the importance of any single customer, we also have to triage bugs and fixes partly by how many customers are affected by them. In your case, this is something that affects you and possibly one or two other customers (due to a unique data situation and your participation in the FeedLounge alpha).

While we understand that this is not a good or even moderately good solution, one fix for your issue would be to save your OPML, reset your account, and re-import your OPML.

Again, our apologies for the inconvenience this bug causes you and thanks for your patience and understanding while we get it fixed. I ask that you please post any follow-up on this in the forum threads you have already started for this issue.

  7. Wow, what an honor! Alex, Scott: Thanks! It’s been a real pleasure to participate in FL from the first day I logged in. Your dedication to your customer’s happiness is a real inspiration.

The new “Mark Page Read” feature and the Paging bug fix are going to make a big improvement to my day-to-day experience with FL. Together they will remove a nagging feeling of roughness from the app and make it even more of a polished pleasure to use.

    Keep up the great work!
    Avi

PS I’m going to head over to the Vote for Features page now and update my votes - I’d encourage everyone to make sure they’re votes are up to date!

  8. FANTASTIC, guys. I’m away from home for long periods of time, and I love that I can read my news one page at a time (I sometimes come back to thousands of unread items :) .
