Reading Feeds

Reading feeds is the primary purpose of FeedLounge and we’ve gone to great lengths to give you a fabulous feed reading experience.

Layout

FeedLounge has a choice of two primary layouts, a “3 pane” view similar to that used by many e-mail clients and a “column” view. Some people are more comfortable with the familiar 3 pane view, while others prefer the reduced scrolling of the column view. You can change your layout at any time by clicking on the option you want in the toolbar (there is also a keyboard shortcut for this). Layout Controls

No Page Refreshing

Every few minutes, FeedLounge pushes any new items from your feeds down to your browser - no need to ever hit the “Refresh” button.

Read Using Your Mouse

The FeedLounge interface is very easy to use with your mouse. Click on a feed or tag in the far right column and a list of items for that feed or tag appears in the items list. Click on an item in the items list and that item is shown in the view pane. To view items in another feed or tag, click on that feed or tag. To view a different item, click on the item you want to view.

Read Using Your Keyboard

FeedLounge allows you to read your feeds using familiar keyboard commands that are not normally supported by web applications:

  • Space Bar - The space bar is a “magic button” in FeedLounge. It will take you through your unread items, one at a time - it will even scroll through an item (if it needs scrolling) before going on to the next item. You definitely want to try this out.
  • Arrow Keys - The arrow keys work just about how you’d expect in FeedLounge. The Up and Down arrow keys move you through the active list, while the Left and Right arrow keys change the focus from the list of feeds or tags to the list of items and vice versa.

You can do pretty much everything you want in FeedLounge using only keyboard commands.

The “Unread Items” Special Feed

An optional feature of FeedLounge is the “Unread Items” special feed. This feed shows all of your unread items from all of your feeds in one big list. You can enable and disable this feed in your My Account settings.
