Subscribing to Feeds
The first thing you’ll want to do is subscribe to your favorite feeds so that you can start using FeedLounge for your feed reading. FeedLounge allows you to subscribe to a single feed by entering the URL, or to import an OPML file (usually exported from another feed reading program) that contains a list of feeds.
Subscribing to a single feed
- Click on the Subscribe button
in the toolbar, this will present you with a “pop-up” window.

- Enter the URL of the feed you want to subscribe to into the ‘Feed URL’ field. It’s a good idea to copy-paste the URL into this field so you don’t make a mistake typing it in.
- Optional: add tags to the feed, terms you associate with the feed.
- Optional: check the box labelled ‘401 Authentication Required’ if the feed you are subscribing to requires a username and password. After you check this box, you will be presented with fields to enter your username and password.
- Click ‘OK’ to add your new feed to your feeds list.
Importing an uploaded OPML file
- Click on the Subscribe button in the toolbar
, this will present you with a “pop-up” window.

- Click the ‘Import OPML’ tab at the top of the window.
- Click on the ‘Browse’ button and select your OPML file from your hard drive.
- Click on the ‘OK’ button to begin adding feeds from your OPML file to your feeds list.
Importing an OPML file by URL
- Click on the Subscribe button in the toolbar
, this will present you with a “pop-up” window.

- Click the ‘Import OPML’ tab at the top of the window.
- Enter the URL of the OPML file you want to import into the ‘URL of File’ field. It’s a good idea to copy-paste the URL into this field so you don’t make a mistake typing it in.
- Click on the ‘OK’ button to begin adding feeds from your OPML file to your feeds list.
As your OPML file is being imported, a banner is displayed1 which shows the import progress:

As your feeds are added from your OPML, they will begin appearing in your Feeds list (every 2 minutes). There is no need to refresh your browser.
Next: Reading Feeds
- If you refresh your browser before all of the feeds from OPML import are processed, this banner will no longer be displayed though your feeds will continue to be pushed to you. [back]

I would love to see a way to add feeds using a bookmarlet, like bloglines and Newsgator. This may exist, though I have not found it yet.
The bookmarklet is right here.
I’ve gotten used to Rojo and it’s ability to discover the RSS feed on a given page.
Feedlounge doesn’t look to do that (yet?).
Chris, FeedLounge has feed auto-discovery. See the list of features here: http://feedlounge.com/features/
